After ordination in 1960 he studied History at Cambridge, graduating MA in 1963, and Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame (Indiana), graduating PhD in 1969. He enjoyed another sabbatical in Scriptural studies in Jerusalem (Ecce Homo) before joining a team facilitating a renewal programme for Missionaries in Midlife in Rome for four years (2001-05). He is currently teaching at the Institute of St Anselm in Margate.
