Theology of Consecrated Life

This module will introduce students to the development of three of the Evangelical Counsels into the religious vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Furthermore, it will seek to situate the three vows- common to most religious- within a uniquely Franciscan understanding and observance that, nevertheless, remains fundamentally true to the Gospel source and historical integrity of the Counsel/vow and, finally, ground these in the seminal document on Religious life of the Second Vatican Council, Perfectae Caritatis.

Duration: 20 hours, comprising one 2-hour session per week over a ten week term.
Indicative Bibliography
Notes from various sources, journal articles, chapters from books etc. will be provided for the students as handouts.
